Q: Why invest in an Exhaust Purification System?
A: Owning, using or chartering a yacht should be a pleasure, and each journey should not be ruined by smoke or noise for that matter. Considering the time and amount of money invested in a yacht, both exterior and interior, the costs of an Exhaust Purification System is very small – hence not doing the investment may cause more head-aches and complaints, than praise and joy – and it will increase the value of the yacht. Who wants to buy a yacht that is smelly and noisy?
Q: Why would you recommend Exilator’s system ExiLencer?
A: Before we went to the market, we spent a lot of time with owners, captains, chief engineers and crew members. The key message from all was: Most yachts have a problem with exhaust gases and the noise from the exhaust, despite use of silencers. Those who have chosen to install other Exhaust Purification Systems, are often complaining about the complex installation due use of pre-burners, or pre-heaters and maintenance is costly.
Based on that knowledge, we chose to attack the problem from the user angle “Make It Simple” i.e a “Plug and Play” solution. We combined several patented technologies into one solution, which include a silencer (up to 35 dB reduction), 3rd generation module based filter technology, and “state of the art” coating technology, NOx reduction and built in alarm systems.
Q: How do you install it?
A: We have tried to make it as simple as possible, by removing all the complexity found on most other systems i.e nomoving parts. Hence it is a passive system. For retrofits, you simply cut the existing pipes, and replace it with the ExiLencer “plug and play”. Start the engine and you are up and running. For new builds – “plan and play” – If you have space for a silencer, there is space for an integrated solution.
Q: What about maintenance?
A: Just as simple as the installation. By using clean low sulphur fuel, you only need to clean the filters for ashes (from the burned soot) every 5.000 hours, and most can do the cleaning on their own, either by using our cleaning kit, using on-board equipment, or when servicing the yacht.
Q: How does the crew know when to clean?
A: Since the Exilencer includes sensors and real-time monitoring with alerts and alarms (ExiBox), the crew will be notified, when to add power, when to clean, or when then filter blocks need replacing (using clean low sulphur fuel, then this is only after operating hours 50.000 hours.
