New 3M Marine Polishing System
This new product created by 3M, allows for a highly polished finish to be applied on gel coated hulls. Despite most commercially available polishes being designed for hard automotive finishes, this new system is specifically formulated to provide optimum finish on marine production gel coats.
Based around 3M’s Marine Imperial Compound and Finishing Material and designed by material scientists at 3M, the product can be applied after sanding, using a wool pad, to remove grade P600 or finer sand scratch marks and gel coat oxidisation quickly and easily, leaving a high quality finish with no swirl or scratch marks.
3M Marine Imperial Compound contains no wax or silicone and has been optimised for machine application with air or electric buffers operating at 1500 to 2500 rpm, using 3M Superbuff or Hookit compounding pads. It can also be applied by hand using a soft cloth.

FUELSTAT resinae PLUS – fuel maintenance
Arguably, the first stage to any fuel maintenance schedule, should begin with fuel testing and if you haven’t heard already, Conidia Bioscience has created the new FUELSTAT resinae PLUS test kit.
This onsite fuel test can be conducted wherever fuel is manufactured, stored, distributed or consumed and can be used prior to bunkering to check the fuels quality before loading on board. This product is capable of detecting all known organisms, which grow in fuel and in fuel systems within just 10 minutes, unlike current growth-based tests, which require a minimum of 72 hours to provide any results.
It can be directly sourced from Conidia Bioscience or selected chandlers: www.conidia.com/fuelstat-diesel-test-kit/
It’s reassuring to see that safety procedures and services are improving on what seems to be, a daily basis. With 2015 marking the year anniversary of the RIB accident in Cornwall, where a father and daughter were killed, this new wireless kill cord could be of interest to superyacht tender drivers.
The Coastkey worked as a wireless engine kill switch. If the driver falls overboard, the communication between the RIB and driver is disrupted, thus meaning the engine will stop immediately and the signal beacon is activated.
The device also allows the driver to start, stop and tilt the engine at the touch of a button, up to 15m away.
You can purchase this at various chandleries or find a dealer at: http://www.killcord.co.uk/

Nano sealer technology
According to Jose from Pinmar Supply, nano technology in cleaning has become more and more popular, due to its ability to allow you to seal glass without having to apply further cleaning products. Nano sealers in particular are taking over from teak oil, as a more efficient way of cleaning a yacht, according to Jose: “Everything used to be teak oil, now everything is about sealers. Technology is also a big influence on the market, and products just keep getting better.”
