The Virgin Islands Shipping Registry (VISR) offers first class services and advice for yacht owners, captains and crew requiring yacht registration and safety certification when visiting the Virgin Islands and beyond.
They are able to serve the global market as a provider of international yacht registration, safety and advisory services.
The role of the VISR is to implement the maritime policies of the Government, covering shipping operations, safety of life at sea (SOLAS), security, and the prevention of, and response to, pollution from ships and yachts.
BVI Yacht registrationYachts registered in the British Virgin Islands are British Ships and fly the Red Ensign.
The VISR can register:
• General cargo ships of unlimited tonnage;
• Yachts of up to 3000 gross tons
• Vessels previously covered under Category 2
• Recreational craft and yachts of up to 400 gross tons (about 45m in length)
• Cargo and commercial craft of up to 150 gross tons (roughly 24m in length)
• Domestic passenger ships on domestic voyages
BVI Marine certificationThe VISR can certify:
• Caribbean SCV Code vessels
• CCSS Code vessels
• Yelow/Blue Code vessels
• Superyachts/megayachts over 24m in length, but less than 3000 gross tons
• Pax. Vessels other than SCV Code vessels
• Cargo vessels over 500 gross tons
Yacht certificate titles include Compliance, Safety, International Ship Security, Safety Management, International Tonnage Certification and more.
About the BVI Shipping RegistryThe Virgin Islands Shipping Registry was created in 2006 following the merger of the maritime and shipping interests of the BVI’s Financial Services Commission and the Ministry of Communications and Works.
As well as the British Virgin Islands, the Red Ensign Group comprises the shipping registries of the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man, Channel Islands (Guernsey and Jersey), and the eight other Overseas Territories (Anguilla, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, St Helena, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands).
