A look into the world of a superyacht florist

Whether as a bold statement or a subtle touch, a large percentage of superyachts have flowers on board and often in several parts of the vessel. Yachting Pages interviewed Maud Snitselaar of Creation Florale, one of the leading florists in the French Riviera to understand more about the floristry business in the superyacht market.

When was your floristry business founded?

"Creation Florale was founded two years ago now; however I have worked within the florist industry for many years. I first decided I wanted to work with flowers when I was just 12 years old. When I finished my studies, I remember my parents asking me “What do you want to do now?” And I answered “floristry of course.

"I planned to first study the world of flowers and then open my own shop. I started to work with “Meilleur Ouvrier de France” then I decided that it would be nice to go and see where the flowers come from, first visiting Holland and then Italy, Luxembourg, England and Belgium before I came back to the south of France to start my own business."

What makes you different from your competitors?

"We are a small business and take the time to know and listen to our clients. We are also very flexible and can answer all the demands for total client satisfaction. Because we don’t have  shop premises, our customers can be assured that we only offer very fresh flowers that meet their demands 100%. If you ask for yellow roses, we don’t bring red roses because I had them in my shop for two days and they have to go; yellow roses is what you will get. We had one client request the delivery of dead flowers, although one of the most bizarre requests we have received, we delivered."

Are you working on any new projects or developments?

"As we are a young business, all developments are new developments! We have lots of exciting ideas to grow the business, so watch this space!"

Who is your key target audience?

"Most of the time I mainly deal with chief stewardesses, however when the yacht has a new owner, it is common that I will first have a meeting with them to discuss their tastes and requirements."

What are the biggest challenges that you face daily?

"The only main challenge I face every day is to ensure my client is happy! With clients all envisioning the flower arrangement in a particular way, I have to see it through their eyes. However, there is no greater satisfaction for me to hear “Thank you Maud, they are beautiful and perfect!”

Are you attending any upcoming boat shows?

"Apart from the flowers I will be providing for the yachts, I will also have a range of displays on Yachting Pages' stands at Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show."
