Additional Dubois yachts join the New Zealand Millennium Cup

Due to start in less than a week, organisers of the New Zealand Millennium Cup have announced the addition of several Dubois-designed yachts to the race lineup.

Dubois’ 39.7m sail yacht Janice of Wyoming, 36m sail yacht Bliss, and reigning champion, 33m sloop yacht Silvertip, have all returned to the Millennium Cup listing during its final stages of preparation.

Now in its 15^th year, the regatta will be held from the 21^st to 23^rd January 2015 in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands.

Ed Dubois, managing director at Dubois commented, “We are very excited to see that the Millennium Cup is being held once again in 2015. The new venue of the Bay of Islands, along with its well-established regatta, is especially exciting for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is once of the most beautiful coastal areas in the world and ideally suited for yacht racing.

“Secondly, it brings the large New Zealand-built yachts into an area and environment that particularly suits them; beautiful and away from the everyday rush and bustle of a city atmosphere and in an archipelago of islands that provides for stunningly scenic courses to be set.”

In the closing weeks of last year, Peter Busfield, NZ Marine’s CEO, announced that the 2015 NZ Millennium Cup would feature a Dubois race day in order to recognise the Dubois’ long association with the New Zealand industry.

This year, the regatta has been organised by the NZ Marine Export Group, and handicapped to ISYR by Jim Teeters, in order to ensure close-fought yet fun racing. The event will run alongside New Zealand’s biggest domestic regatta, Bay of Islands Sailing Week.
