From 1980 to 1990 Woodgloss' founder Carlos Malco worked on refinishing and classical painting yachts alongside working as crew on seasonal charters.
With 35 year's experience, Carlos established the company Woodgloss in 1990 in Palma de Mallorca, to provide a different and more specific service for yachts.

Starting out as a yacht refinisher for smaller yachts, Woodgloss transformed with the times, choosing to specialise in the maintenance of luxury yachts, as vessels began getting bigger and used more wood. A step ahead of the time, Woodgloss was one of the first companies to solely specialise in wood restoration.

Over the past 25 years, Carlos has continued to develop the excellence of his work. Woodgloss is committed to providing good quality service at a good value.

Woodgloss specialises in the restoration of wood. This is often uneven in colour, due to the bleaching of the sunlight; however using established techniques, Woodgloss restores a variety of wood to their original even colour. This is done by removing the first layer, sanding the surface, applying the coloring to match the tones of the furniture and spray to refinish.

There are always new painting products, refinishing sprays and materials in the market, however Carlos empahsised that as well as knowing the latest techniques, it is also important to know the traditional ones.

Carlos said, “There are many older vessels that have gone through the refit process and have been turned into amazing superyachts. I recently worked with a vessel of 50 meters and the wood inside couldn’t be treated with modern techniques, so in this case it helped that I have a lot of experience and knowledge in the traditional methods.”

Carlos has regularly been asked to work on projects for yachts older than 10 years, with most work performed from September to April during the off-season. Through Woodgloss' classic restoration techniques, a substantial improvement of the image and price is achieved.

Carlos is always open to new refinishing challenges and treats every project as a unique job. He commented, “There are no big or small projects, every single project will receive the best service I can provide.”
