Camper & Nicholsons’ new Scottish marina to hand Edinburgh major employment boost

Camper & Nicholsons Marinas and the developers of the new Edinburgh Marina expansion have confirmed that the number of new permanent jobs at the marina will surpass the figure previously estimated by the City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) in 2016.

As a result of phase one, a £500 million waterside development which includes the new marina and hotel, a CEC forecast predicted that the number of permanent employment opportunities would reach 300. The latest details released by the developer show that phase one alone will now produce over 400 permanent job opportunities for Edinburgh’s local community.

Commenting on the development, Camper & Nicholsons Marinas said, “In addition to the increased number of new jobs provided by the Edinburgh Marina development, the percentage of affordable homes that will be delivered throughout the scheme is far in excess of original expectations and well timed to assist with Edinburgh’s desperate need for this type of accommodation.”

Camper & Nicholsons Marinas will operate the new Edinburgh Marina, which will be the only accessible 24-hour, seven-days-a-week marina in the area. Although not yet disclosed, it is believed that terms have now been agreed for the hotel and apartments to be operated by a leading international hotel brand.

Dan Hughes, chief operating officer of Camper & Nicholsons Marinas, said, “There is no doubt that the marina brings economic benefits to the area, not only through direct employment, but also in the spin-off/secondary employment which will blossom; we have seen it happen many times before.

“The marina staff will be 100% focused on providing a professional and customer-focused service. It is our intention to select only local candidates and train them in some of our existing marina locations, to give them a flavour of what we do best and how we deliver the expected levels of service to the yachtsmen.”

During the announcement, a spokesperson for the developer stated, “We are very pleased that we can deliver such a significant number of new permanent jobs at all levels, from apprentices through to senior management… We intend to open a dedicated website for future potential employees to register.”
