Cannes Yachting Festival announces major change for 2019 event

At an idyllic setting in the Bay of Cannes during the 2018 show, Cannes Yachting Festival announced its ambition to become the biggest event of its kind in the world.

To help realise this ambition, a showcase dedicated to monohull and multihull sailing, able to accommodate over 100 sailing boats, will be installed at Port Canto from 2019.

With over 400 linear metres of quayside for monohulls and over 450 metres for multihulls, Port Canto offers its water-based facilities and extensive land areas to accommodate sailing boats and give them the space they deserve and the development potential they require.

Director Sylvie Ernoult revealed, during a speech at the 2018 event, the boat show’s desire to contribute to the growth of the nautical sector and the development of its French and international customer bases by becoming the world’s largest sailing boat show, cementing its position as Europe’s largest nautical boat show.

“For the past three years, we seen the Vieux Port become very overcrowded both on land and in the water. We have gradually tried to relieve the congestion in the Vieux Port by using the spaces available at Port Canto…” explains Ernoult.

“On the other hand, in recent years our exhibitors and customers have told us of their wishes to have larger exhibition areas, both in the water and on land. This led us to rethink the Cannes Yachting Festival overall for its 2019 edition. This project was made possible after a long consultation with our exhibitors and with the support of the city of Cannes, the CCI Nice Côte d’Azur and many other partners,” she concludes.

To give exhibitors greater visibility and reinforce the legitimacy of the show, Vieux Port will also provide shipyards and equipment manufacturers larger areas to exhibit their products.

“Historically, sailing has always been highly represented at the Cannes Yachting Festival, weighing in at more than 20% of the boats on display. This is a much higher proportion than the global market share of this segment,” explains Ernoult.

She adds, “It was therefore a natural and obvious choice for us to reconsider the layout of the show and to move the sailing sector to the other side of the Croisette, around 10 minutes (by water shuttle) from the Vieux Port.”

Earlier this week, sea lovers and yachting fans alike filed in to admire the best of the international offering of motor, sailing, monohull or multihull (638 boats from 2.4 to 50 metres presented by 542 exhibitors).

The luxury yachting event boasts the ability to offer the vast majority of shipyards present the opportunity to offer sea trials to future buyers.
