Changes to internet and satellite TV systems on superyachts

There has been a major change in the demand for faster internet speeds and more control of viewing and monitoring on superyachts, according to leading marine internet and satellite TV company, Best Service.

According to Frank Butterfield of Best Service, “Identifying problems in advance and help managing usage of systems on board is a service which is now highly valued by the captains who value the time it saves them as well as cost savings from internet usage running out of control. The installation of a communication box can assist a captain to see how airtime is being used as well as helping control the costs.

“It has become apparent in the yachting market that third party support is of real value to  captains of  yachts; managed support is on the increase so a captain only needs to make one call to resolve their internet and satellite TV issues. Offering a ‘one-stop-shop’ is the preferred solution as one company understands their yacht from the installation right through to their airtime, allowing any issues to be resolved quickly with just one point of contact.”

Another major change for VSAT and TVRO is the update of antennas. Frank went on to state, “Best Service provides spares but as manufacturers also update their antennas. The spares also become increasingly difficult to source leaving many yachts with only one option to update their antenna as spares are no longer in circulation.”

Best Service is also now offering a new range of products with great advantages for the superyachts.

Frank commented, “In 2015 a new distribution system will be launched which at the moment is top secret and we cannot give too much information on this , but it will be based on A/V , HDMI and 4K distribution over a 10 Gbs fibre network; this will be the next advancement over the HDMI matrix distribution systems.”
