We hope the Queen of England still has her copies of Yachting Pages and SYOG.
The Daily Mail has launched a campaign to build a new megayacht for the Queen of England and the British Royal family. The tabloid reported that a consortium of prominent maritime, scientific and educational figures have developed a plan for a 650ft ship, that has already secured some substantial backing.
The ship codenamed FSP21 would be a magnificent four masted sailing ship, with royal accommodation. It would combine maritime education, research and adventure training with overseas diplomacy and royal visits. The yacht would be carbon neutral with solar power generated from its 90,000 sq ft of sails.
The cost of the £80 million project will come from private and corporate sources and be run by a charitable trust. Maldwin Drummond, marine author and co-founder of the project comments, ‘This would unite the nation and business, and serve an educational purpose for all ages right up to PhD students.’ The projects full details are to be unveiled shortly.
The Queen was hand delivered copies of Yachting Pages and Superyacht Owners Guide by Managing Director Steve Crowe in July 2009. Now the Queen will have the ultimate opportunity to use our books during the build of her yacht.
