Dynamiq’s 38.6m Jetsetter damaged after running aground in Bermuda

Italian Yacht Builder Dynamiq’s 38.6m M/Y Jetsetter has been freed. She ran aground in the Great Sound near Stag Rocks at 1pm on June 12th, and has now been taken for a full hull inspection.

According to the Bermuda Maritime Operation Centre’s duty officer, no injuries were sustained when the approximately £12.5 million yacht ran aground in the Dockyard area. On arrival, first responders reported that Jetsetter was not taking on any water and that there was no evidence of pollution.

By 11pm, a plan had been devised to use the tug Faithful to pull the vessel clear of the reef at high tide, but after many attempts, the plan failed. A local salvage contractor was then contacted to assist Marines and Ports, and the following day Jetsetter was successfully freed.

The Isle of Man based yacht has been escorted to an anchoring spot south of Morgan’s Point. Here an underwater hull inspection is expected to take place, as no Bermudan yards are able to haul out a yacht of Jetsetter’s size.

David Simmons, Bermuda’s harbour master, has purported that the captain must have struck the reef after attempting to avoid the main race area of the Bermuda Cup.

It is currently unknown what damage has been sustained.
