Elandra Yachts bound for the US in 2016

One of Australia’s newest luxury motor yacht brands, Elandra Yachts has its sights set on establishing a major presence in the American yachting market, with its first Elandra 53 scheduled for delivery in the US in 2016.

Luke Durman, co-founder and director of Elandra Yachts said that he and the team are ‘pumped’ ahead of exhibiting at the Sydney International Boat Show (SIBS), which started today. He said, “We have had lots of enquiry’s in the lead up and our Australian dealers are all very happy.”

The company is in a period of rapid growth, and Durman revealed that it has committed AUS$3.5 million to R&D over the next two and a half years, plus they have already acquired a further 1,000 square metres of floor space at their Gold Coast premises.

For the next half of 2015, efforts will focus on development of new models, including the Elandra 49 (extended from the initial 47) and a 60-foot plus model.

Durman continued, “We are on track for our projected growth. This financial year, we will build four boats – three 53s and one 49. Then we anticipate building six or seven in the 2017 financial year as we move in to the US.”

The US market is crucial to expansion plans for the brand, as Durman explained, “We have identified the strategically important markets for Elandra as Australia, New Zealand and the USA. For the next five years our focus is in these markets. In time, we expect 65% to 70% of our turnover the be in the US, so it’s a very important step for us and the planning and discussions are well advanced to have representation in the USA for the east coast show circuit in 2016.

“Elandra has its first boat, the Elandra 53 scheduled for delivery to the US in 2016, and with the strengthening US dollar against the Aussie it makes our premium offering even greater value for money. The Elandra product will be very competitively priced against its competitors in the US market. As for dealers, we will look to have factory direct representation. That may involve working with a few select US dealers.”
