Engineers Can 'Work for Lürssen' in New Online Challenge

An online community of more than 180,000 mechanical computer-aided design (CAD) engineers has launched a design challenge for members to model a ‘damping device’ for a wind breaker door for the megayacht maker Lürssen.

The winner of the competition, organised by GrabCAD which is the largest online community by and for Mechanical Design Engineers, has the opportunity to win cash prizes totalling $4,000.

GrabCAD’s main goal is to help bring engineers and customers together over the web. Engineers looking to share their talent or designs with the world, or customers looking to crowd-source solutions can find their answers at GrabCAD.

The competition provides an opportunity to work with Lürssen, who is regarded as one of the world’s best luxury yacht builders, making it an even greater opportunity for GrabCAD’s members.

GrabCAD also hopes that the challenge will benefit from “harvesting many surprising ideas which can combine to make a vastly superior final product, in either performance or safety, as compared to any small group or individual.”

The competition begins on May 15th and will close on June 5th, 2012.
