Gulf Craft’s new 54m flagship to be IMO Tier III certified

UAE-based shipyard Gulf Craft has announced that its 54-metre (177-foot) flagship Majesty 175 yacht will be IMO Tier III certified, thanks to the delivery of new systems from Hug Engineering AG.

The Majesty 175 will be the world’s first commercial yacht over 500GT made from GRP material and certified in full compliance with the MCA LY3 Code.

IMO Tier III certification applies to vessels above 500GT wishing to sail in the North American and the United States Caribbean Sea NOx Emission Control Areas (NECAs).

The Majesty 175 will be certified with an exhaust gas after-treatment system of Hug Engineering for main engines and gensets. Additionally, Hug Engineering’s scope of supply consists of custom-made Nauticlean selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust gas after-treatment systems, including the corresponding control technology for the two MTU main engines and the two gensets. Furthermore, the SCR system for the gensets is a combined solution with integrated particulate filters.

With the main engines already gaining IMO Tier III certification, Hug Engineering will be responsible for the entire certification process of the gensets. The certification will be performed on a test bench with a 195 kW genset and a Nauticlean SCR exhaust gas purification system.

Italian naval architect Massimo Gregory, from Yankee Delta Studio, developed the yacht in collaboration with Cristiano Gatto Studio, who worked on her exterior styling and interior design.

She will boast many features never before seen on a superyacht of its size. She is planned to be launched early in 2019.

Adorno Mazzanti, sales manager of Hug Engineering, said, “We are very pleased to have our first project with a UAE-based shipyard and appreciate the trust in our products and services.”

Gulf Craft’s implementation of an SCR system will significantly reduce harmful nitrogen oxides. In doing so, Gulf Craft will meet customer demands, but also international legislation in order to sail within the NOx emission control areas (NECAs).

In the future, additional NECA areas are expected to arise. In 2021, compliance will also extend to all vessels below 500GT and longer than 24 metres.
