Humphree announces cooperation with Ares Shipyard

Swedish-based manufacturer of interceptor trim and stabilisation systems, Humphree, has announced that it has secured a long-term cooperation with Turkish Ares Shipyard for a total of 22 vessels for the Qatar coast guard and Turkish navy.

The Humphree system, optimised for each vessel model with a variety of automatic boat control systems, will be installed aboard the 22 vessels in order to generate improved speed, fuel consumption, stabilisation and excellent maneuvering.

Ares Shipyard has chosen Humphree to provide interceptors for trim and stabilisation to both the Hercules vessel series for the Qatar coast guard, and two other models, including the popular Ares 42 Hector, to the Turkish Navy.

The Hercules series includes three patrol vessel models that are 22.9m, 33.5m and 45.7m LOA. The contract for the 17 vessels for Qatar’s coast guard is the biggest foreign order a Turkish shipyard has ever received in the defence segment.

Recently, the first project in the Humphree - Ares cooperation was launched; the Ares 42 Hector, which includes three patrol boats with propeller propulsion. Kerim Kalafatoglu, president of Ares Shipyard commented, “We are really happy with the improved performance and turning ability of the boat achieved with the Humphree Automatic system.”

Ares Shipyard is located in Antalya on the South Coast of Turkey and has been operating since 2006. They specialise in the manufacture of fast patrol craft of up to 70 metres LOA for military and homeland security purposes as well as for civil applications.

Today, Humphree has around 1,500 installations in the marine market, of which the commercial and navy segment makes up a significant part. High performance trim and stabilisation systems are provided to a great variety of vessels ranging from small RIB’s to 70m OPV’s.
