Kilkea explorer yacht in build at Vard shipyard

The 81m explorer yacht Kilkea is now in build at the Vard shipyard in Vietnam.

Announced by Edmiston & Company, Kilkea is currently due to be delivered in the next two years, and will then become one of the largest explorer yachts in the world.

Featuring interior and exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell, she is a steel and aluminium yacht, and will feature a dive centre, superyacht helipad and submarine dock, with space for a swimming pool.

According to reports, Vard is offering many options for customisation, including a choice of two layouts: 16 cabins with room for 32 guests, or a 12-cabin version with two VIP suites and each suite containing its own private observation lounge.

Edmiston commented in a statement that the project provides “a near blank canvas aft of its towering bows, with complete freedom on layout and facilities.”

In terms of speed, Kilkea will be able to reach up to 15.4 knots, with a cruising speed of 12 knots. She will also include an ice-breaking displacement hull and the latest in hybrid propulsion and eco-management systems; this will allow her to remain at sea for up to 30 days with minimal impact to the environment.
