Lewmar Launches New 'Rudder Reference' Autopilot Range

 

Lewmar, a leading sailboat and powerboat hardware supplier for the leisure marine industry, is launching a new range of autopilots with an ‘integrated rudder reference’.
 
The feature is designed to make the installation easier for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end customers.
 
Rudder reference modules make it possible to know the exact angle of the rudder blade at all times. This improves performance and prevents the rudder from being ‘driven too hard’ when a boat stops.
 
Lewmar’s new autopilot is especially useful for removing the need for costly external reference units, and in saving time and costs associated with mounting brackets and installation.
 
The reference unit is not available as an add-on unit for existing autopilots, and must be ordered as a complete drive, says Lewmar.
 
The unit’s parts are user exchangeable using a simple tool, while the unit’s belt drive prevents damage to the potentiometer if the drive turns beyond its travel limits.
 
In addition, the unit adapts the highly-popular Integra, Mamba and Direct Drives with new mouldings or revised castings, while the belt-driven potentiometer provides the necessary 10kO output for Garmin, Nexus and NKE systems.
