Luxury yacht crashes into Richmond Bridge on the Thames

On Saturday 15th March, British public who were making the most of the spring sunshine were interrupted by a luxury Princess V57 yacht, which crashed into Richmond Bridge.

The yacht, which is worth more than £1 million, made a loud bang when it collided with the bridge just before 4pm on Saturday afternoon.  After it hit the bridge, the high levels of the Thames, which had burst its banks earlier that day, meant that the luxury yacht was temporarily stranded next to hundreds of onlookers.

Eyewitness reported that the high levels of the river caught out the captain, who was unaware that the yacht would not be able to pass through the bridge.

After being stuck for around 10 minutes, the motor yacht finally passed underneath the bridge successfully and continued on its journey. Despite the large crowds and cheering, it appeared that the yacht came out of the incident without any real damage.

According to the Daily Mail, A spokesman for the PLA said, “At about 15.49 she was coming under Richmond Road Bridge and struck the side, she seems to have reversed her engines and attempted the manouevre again successfully”.
