Marina de Vilamoura, Portugal, is celebrating recognition as The Yacht Harbour Association’s (TYHA) ‘Best International Marina 2015’ upon receiving the accolade at the Marina of the Year Awards in January this year.
The award, which was presented at a ceremony in London, UK, was announced upon the results of a poll of boat owners who had visited the five Gold Anchor marina in 2014.
As part of the vote, visitors to the 84 competing international marinas were asked to comment on why they felt the marina that they were voting for was the best, with excellent customer service topping the polling.
Having celebrated its 40th birthday last year, Marina Vilamoura is the oldest and arguably one of the most well known in Portugal. The TYHA ceremony saw Marina Vilamoura go up against Marina de Albufeira, a neighbouring marina in southern Portugal, as well as the IGY Rodney Bay Marina, Southampton Town Quay Marina and many more Gold Anchor accredited marinas both in the UK and overseas.
Now managed by the Lusort Group, the marina has made moves to strategically adapt the infrastructure over the years in order to accommodate the modern-day needs of the yachting industry, earning Marina Vilamoura the Publituris Trade Award of ‘Best Portuguese Marina” consecutively from 2011 to 2014.
Márcia Viegas, a representative of Marina de Vilamoura commented, “The new accolade is recognition of all the work and effort of a team that remains committed to the services it offers, and who takes pride in a marina that is always young; renewed and betting on the tourism of the future.”
Marina Vilamoura accommodates berthing for up to 825 vessels with a maximum of 60-metres LOA.
