MISF and Informa Exhibitions announce FLIBS to stay until 2050

The Marine Industries of South Florida and Informa Exhibitions have announced the signing of a 30-year lease extension with Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel & Yachting Centre, ensuring the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will remain at the location until 2050. Extensive plans for redevelopment and investment have also been disclosed.

The lease also includes two 10-year extension options, meaning the largest boat show in the world, in terms of exhibitor space and vessels on display, has the option to remain for up to 50 years.

Following the lease extension, the Fort Lauderdale City Commission reported that they will consider plans submitted by site operators Rahn Bahia Mar LLC to redevelop the 39-acre site of Bahia Mar into an upscale community and permanent home of FLIBS.

Charlie McCurdy, CEO of Informa Exhibitions, said, "With the lease extension in place, we are prepared to commit significant resources to improving the show's infrastructure, technologies, and customer services in ways that will noticeably enhance exhibitor and attendee experiences."

A study released in July 2016 by Thomas J. Murray & Associates in conjunction with the University of Florida, showed that the 2015 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show contributed in excess of $857 million to Florida's economy.

Phil Purcell, CEO/President of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, commented, "Informa's exhibition expertise, coupled with Bahia Mar's transformational redevelopment, will ensure that the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show delivers an economic benefit that will continue to secure the region as the yachting capital of the world."

In March 2016, Show Management, who have managed the show since 1876, ensured they will produce the event for another 30 years, following an extension of their deal with the MIASF.

The 58th annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show will take place 1st November 2017 to 5th November 2017, across seven locations covering more than 3,000,000ft².
