New England Boatworks launches 28.7m Contraband

New England Boatworks (NEB) has launched its largest build to date. The 28.7-metre (94-foot) motor yacht Contraband, built for the owner of the yard, launched on 24th August after construction began in July 2017.

Contraband and Newport Shipyard owner Charlie Dana also owns one of the first boats ever built at the yard, a 21.3-metre (70-foot) Hood design aluminium ketch called Saint Roque.

Although information is sparse, NEB has previously described her as a “durable, rugged, world cruising vessel, “ which “takes advantage of NEB’s many years of expertise in aluminium construction.”

To be handled by a minimal crew, she is also said to feature “tugboat engines”. She will have a long-range cruising capability at a speed of 13 knots.

Dana is pleased to have built the vessel as it demonstrates the Dana family commitment to the local marine industry.
