New Frontiers sold by Damen

Dutch yard Damen Shipyards has announced that its 55-metre (180-foot) support vessel New Frontiers has been sold after appearing at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Construction was completed in September 2017 and is the first Damen support vessel to feature owner and guest accommodation. The ship builder is now building its sixth 55m-support vessel, which is due for delivery in mid-2018.

New Frontiers boasts a panoramic main-deck lounge and is equipped with a host of new features and an even larger watersports store. She has been designed to take her owner into “new territory” with a stand-alone adventure mode and superyacht support mode.

In October 2017, New Frontiers was used to support demonstration dives of Triton’s superyacht-optimised 1650/3 submersible.

Elsewhere, Damen was thrust into the media spotlight late last year as another of its support vessels was featured heavily in the BBC documentary series Blue Planet II with Sir David Attenborough. The film crew used UMBRA, which was kitted out with an ocean research laboratory, as a base for submersible operations and divers, as well as for searching and filming by helicopter.

Discussing Damen’s range of support vessels and its latest sale, commercial director Rose Damen commented, “Whether a mesmerising weekend dive adventure to Truk Lagoon or Cocos Island, or enjoying two locations at once linked by helicopter, or all of the benefits of large tenders, toys, submersibles and storage, out Yacht Support range is all about unforgettable experiences and freedom.

“New Frontiers is ripping up the rule book. It’s still a yacht support vessel, but you can’t put this vessel into one category or another – and that reflects exactly the wishes of our clients. They want their holiday to be about freedom and spontaneity – New Frontiers makes that possible.”
