Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating magazines have announced the nominations for the 13th edition of the Asia Boating Awards, with four new categories and new category criteria revealed for the 2017 awards.
More than 200 nominees have been shortlisted by Asia-Pacific Boating and China Boating readers in an online poll, including yacht builders, motor yachts, sailing yachts, regattas, marinas, yacht clubs and big personalities of the industry, with a number of categories dedicated to the Asian market.
The Asia Boating Awards is often regarded as the first event to recognise the efforts of Asian yacht builders, with this year’s new categories for Best Sportscruiser, Best Flybridge Yacht, Best Explorer Yacht and Best Recreational Boat completing the 26 categories. A panel of expert judges will decide the category winners.
John Higginson, editor-in-chief of Asia-Pacific Boating said, “The Asia Boating Awards have been a highlight for the region’s yachting industry every year since they were launched and created by Asia-Pacific Boating in 2005.”
Companies who have done particularly well from the nominations are Princess Yachts, Lagoon, Jeanneau, and Sunreef Yachts, with six nominations each, Beneteau with seven nominations, Sunseeker with eight, and Horizon Yachts with an impressive 10 nominations.
Samuel Xu, Editor-in-Chief of China Boating commented, “We are glad to see increasing numbers of Chinese high-net-worth individuals accepting [the yachting] lifestyle in the past 15 years, and have tried to get more involved in the sailing regattas, offshore cruising, boat parties and other sea-related activities. We hope all our partners will benefit from this potential market and enjoy the 13th edition of Asia Boating Awards.”
