Omega Architects and Van Oossanen Naval Architects have revealed details of their latest collaboration for a 38-metre (125-foot) full-displacement explorer yacht, NedXplor 38.
Offered for sale with IYC, whose Monaco broker helped to develop the project, NedXplor 38 will be built to MCA LY3 standards at an undisclosed Dutch shipyard.
Featuring a near-vertical bow, which maximises interior volume, and reverse-angled wheelhouse windows, NedXplor 38 is ideal for navigating in all conditions.
Naval architect Perry Van Oossanen explained, “Yachts in this size bracket can sometimes be overlooked, but this size means that it can be a true explorer yacht, anchoring close to the coast, entering small harbours and exploring, and easy to handle and manoeuvre — all the attributes an adventurous yacht needs.”
Designer Frank Laupman described her design as “a bold, masculine exterior, complemented by a warmer, feminine elegant interior.”
Accommodation on board is for up to 10 guests across five cabins, including the owner’s suite on the main deck, as well as two doubles and two twin cabins on the lower deck, while crew quarters allow for seven staff.
Key design features include a spacious main deck, which is large enough to be set up as a helipad or storage space, and versatile aft space that can be used to store tenders and toys, or transformed into a superyacht beach club and gymnasium.
Power would come from a pair of 1,000hp Caterpillar C32 engines for a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising range of 5,032 nautical miles at 11 knots.
Van Oossanen explained that the vessel’s globetrotting ability is made possible by the fitment of a hull vane, which also reduces pitching and rolling motion. He concluded, “We believe that the yacht’s size paired with the hull vane is a very interesting proposal for owners looking for a truly adventurous yacht without the size and investment that a much larger explorer yacht requires.”
