3D-design software specialist Dassault Systèmes has announced it has renewed its partnership with ORACLE TEAM USA for the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda next year.
As ORACLE TEAM USA looks to defend its title and seek a third consecutive America’s Cup victory, its new boat will be designed with Dassault Systèmes’ own 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
In a statement on the ORACLE TEAM USA website, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is said to integrate powerful composite design, simulation and manufacturing applications in a collaborative virtual environment.
Scott Ferguson, design coordinator and[LW1] senior wing designer for ORACLE TEAM USA explained, “As defender of the America’s Cup, we are reaffirming our confidence in Dassault Systèmes as we set out to design and build the fastest boat possible for the 35th America’s Cup. Competitive sailing requires us to anticipate multiple factors and situations – from speed and stability to weather conditions and crew safety.
“The 3DEXPERIENCE platform lets us virtually determine what will or will not work on the boat, make changes throughout the development process and seamlessly share information among team members. These are ‘must-haves’ to optimise our boat’s performance.”
Alan Houard, vice president of the marine & offshore industry at Dassault Systèmes also commented, “Making boats fly is one of the wildest technical challenges and a wonderful human adventure, and Dassault Systèmes is proud to renew its support for ORACLE TEAM USA in pushing the boundaries of sailing performance.
“The 3DEXPERIENCE platform connects ideas, people and applications to virtually transform sailboat design and racing. As we saw during the 34th America’s Cup in 2013, this combination of imagination, action, designers, builders, sailors and supporters creates unprecedented holistic racing experiences that bring the sport closer to the public and inspire a new generation of sailors.”
