Palma’s lifestyle emporium “Rialto Living” completes expansion and restoration project

Palma de Mallorca’s first lifestyle emporium, Rialto Living, has doubled its size in order to provide 1,500 square metres of designer fashion, fabrics, furniture, furnishings and interior supplies.

The premises, located on Calle San Feliu, just off of the city’s main shopping boulevard, El Born, now offers two floors as part of the ambitious expansion programme, which involved the restoration and development of one of Palma’s iconic historic palaces; Palacio Can O’Ryan.

Swedish designer Klas Käll, and partner, Barbara Bergman, first opened Rialto Living in 2007 on the side of Palma’s old Rialto Cinema, from which they took the name for the store.

The building, which dates back to the 19th century, was designed in the modernist style of the time, and many features have been retained in order to create a captivating and exciting shopping experience.

In 2012, Käll and Bergman acquired the adjacent building; an 18th century Baroque palace known as Can O’Ryan. In this time, they have completely restored the palace retaining many of the existing architectural features, including the original entrance, which has been integrated in the store, and a unique modernist room which was discovered during the renovation – now a Moroccan area filled with colourful rugs and cushions.

The first phase of the renovation project has created 10 different areas over two floors, while the second and final phase of the expansion project will refurbish 500 square metres for shop floor space and a restaurant. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2015.

Klas Käll and Barbara Bergman, Owners of the store commented,  “Rialto Living is a prime example of the revival of Palma’s historic centre. We continue to evolve and develop the concept as part of our on-going mission to make Rialto Living the most exciting lifestyle store in Europe, and a ‘must-see’ for any visitor to Palma’s elegant city.”
