Patterson Boatworks presents the latest hybrid propulsion superyacht tender

Patterson Boatworks, the Cumbria-based builder of innovative yachts and tenders, is introducing the Lucent 44.  This new 14m superyacht tender and leisure platform by Van Geest Design has the latest in hybrid propulsion, capable of delivering a range of 200 nm at a cruising speed of 20 knots.

The styling ethos is based around transparency, giving clean and uncluttered visual and physical access to the surrounding environment.  The Lucent 44 has contemporary curved lines, a flush foredeck and raised cockpit bulwarks to give protection from spray when at speed.

The large lounge cockpit aft of the steering position has an integrated bar / BBQ and a table system that transforms the cockpit into a setting for alfresco drinks and dining.  The wrap-around transom is made from glass to enhance the feeling of openness and part of it, folds down to create a bathing platform.

The Lucent 44 features the lightest and most technologically advanced marine diesel / electric hybrid drive system currently available.  The system is based around miniature diesel range extenders that maintain a bank of lithium (LI-S) batteries between a 35% and 90% charge.  These power twin 60kW drives that deliver a quiet range of more than 200 nautical miles on 80 litres of fuel at 20 knots.  Fuel economy is further enhanced by a highly efficient hull design built in carbon.

Additional features include “translucent corking” in the cockpit sole that radiates light, photovoltaic cells embedded in the roof above the steering position, and air-conditioning down below.  The interior can be fitted out either as a cabin with a V-bed, together with a day head and galley, or as a limousine saloon.

With her ample cockpit, silent operation and excellent visibility, the Lucent 44 is suited for a wide range of applications.

Patterson Boatworks explained, “As well as a superyacht tender and day boat, she is ideal for use by luxury resorts for carrying guests or for operation in areas sensitive to noise and wash.”

The guide price is £850,000 plus VAT and delivery slots are available in the second half of 2013.
