Prominent speakers added to The Sustainability in the Marine Industry conference programme

Following the success of the 2015 The Future of Yacht Recycling conference, organisers YachtMedia and Quaynote Communications have announced that The Sustainability in the Marine Industry conference will again be held alongside of the METSTRADE Show at RAI Amsterdam, this year with new and prominent speakers.

Taking place on Monday 14th November ahead of the METS show, the second conference will cover topics such as boat recycling, lifecycle assessment and supply chain efficiency, assessing how designers, boat builders and manufacturers can profitably adopt the circular economy.

Paolo Bertetti, operations director for SanLorenzo is scheduled to share his company’s views and plans for ‘cradle-to-grave’ construction and usage of yachts, while Dr Japap van der Woude, sustainability committee chairman of European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA) will give his overview of progress in the recycling of composites, and the methodology of life cycle assessment.

Also speaking at the conference will be Jouko Huju, CEO of Finnboat and Neil Chapman, CEO of Boatshed.com, who will give their views on ‘user demographics’, with data and insight into the changes in ownership habits and usage of leisure yachts.

Udo Kelinitz, secretary general of ICOMIA and SIMI16 chairmain said, “Developed by the same team that brought us last year’s ground-breaking conference, ‘The Future of Yacht Recycling’, SIMI16 pushes the concept one step further by looking at the problems associated with recycling and how lifecycle assessment is relevant to minimising issues surrounding end-of-life boats.

“To further expand on the problems with a linear ‘take-make-dispose’ approach, which results in massive waste, SIMI16 will present a new business model – the ‘circular economy’ – and showcase can it can be applied profitably to the marine industry.”

The conference is again powered by METSTRADE, and technically supported by the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA).

Yachting Pages is again offering delegates discounted entry tickets to The Sustainability in the Marine Industry conference and METSTRADE show. Until Friday 14th October, YachtMedia and Quaynote are offering the first 10 Yachting Pages users a 33% discount on full ticket prices, simply by booking their ticket online, or by contacting Alison Singhal on +44 (0)20 35 60 81 54 and quoting ‘Yachting Pages’.

Ticket prices include a complimentary lunch sponsored by METSTRADE, refreshments and cocktails at the evening reception, which will feature an exclusive VIP tour of he Materials Xperience display by Materia - a global network organisation that connects naval architects, designers and boat manufacturers with materials that add value to their projects.
