Racing yachts get ready for the Pendennis Cup

The final fleet for the Pendennis Cup, which is taking place from 2nd to 7th July 2012 in Falmouth, has been confirmed at 13; this is more than double the 6 yachts that competed in the 2010 event.

The Regatta is organised by Pendennis Shipyard every two years and this year, the racing will be managed by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club and race officer, Peter Craig.

The fleet has been arriving over the past few weeks seeing Port Pendennis Marina very busy with Pendennis Cup and J-Class regatta yachts, some of which are over 40m in length.

On Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th the racing yachts will leave Port Pendennis Marina at 9:30am ready for the start at 11:30am and will be racing to the finish line, located off Pendennis Point in Falmouth Bay and returning to the marina from 3pm onwards.  The racing yachts will be visible from Pendennis Point or St Mawes.

The event organisers have arranged a full shore-side programme to complement the four days of competitive racing.  Evening entertainment will give owners, guests and crews a chance to experience the very best in Cornish cuisine and hospitality.

Pendennis organisers will welcome 1,000 industry guests, sponsors, owners and invited VIPs over the course of the Pendennis Cup, which includes over 300 crew.

The range of events organised to supplement the racing includes drive experiences in Aston Martins, the welcome BBQ at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, Sea Shanties at the iconic Chain Locker Pub, an evening of live music at the Princess Pavilions, the return of the popular Crew Curry Night and the final awards party at Pendennis Castle.

The spectacular Pendennis Castle will host 400 guests, where winning yachts will be presented with trophies. Guests will be indulge in traditional Cornish cuisine, with bars hosted by Moët & Chandon and Redman Whiteley Dixon.  Entertainment will be provided by the Martin Harley Band providing an exciting end to the 2012 Pendennis Cup.
