Sanlorenzo launches first 47m 500 EXP explorer yacht

La Spezia-based shipyard Sanlorenzo has used its landmark 60^th anniversary celebrations to launch its first 500 EXP – an impressively customised 47.2-metre (154-foot) explorer yacht.

The Italian yard’s latest project follows on from its well-received 460 EXP vessel, drawing from its successes in the area and augmenting the designs to reflect the client’s ideas and needs. The 500 EXP shares similarities with its predecessor – with stylish exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski – but also features a number of notable extensions and additions, which mark it as a major leap forwards for Sanlorenzo.

The 500 EXP boasts a helipad – a vital element for the new owners – as well as a garage for tenders up to seven metres, additional openings for increased sea access, and an “increased toy-carrying capacity”. The model name reflects the yacht’s 500GT weight.

Sanlorenzo launched the 500 EXP following a Buddhist ceremony and traditional blessings at its yard on 6^th May. The owner’s family and around 700 of the yard’s guests attended the ceremony, which formed a significant part of the company’s anniversary celebrations.

Although she is yet to undergo sea trials, the 500 EXP is expected to be capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots. She will be powered by 1,320hp Caterpillar C-32 ACERT diesel engines.

Sanlorenzo’s superyacht branch has also recently revealed that it is working on a new 640-metre steel-and-aluminium concept. Further details will be announced by the yard in the coming months.
