STARS‘N’BARS and Yachting Pages join forces to reduce plastic waste in Monaco

STARS‘N’BARS, in partnership with Yachting Pages Media Group, are teaming up in a bid to help reduce plastic waste in and around Port Hercule after the Monaco Yacht Show 2018.

Set to take place immediately after the show, volunteers are invited to join the Eco Angels to pick up leftover plastic waste to raise awareness of environmental responsibility. Visitors will also see the Eco Angels sporting bright pink t-shirts throughout the show.

Eco Angels is a concept created by Kate Powers, co-founder of family restaurant and sports bar STARS’N’BARS in Monaco.  A dedicated environmentalist, Kate has formed, over the years, unofficial “teams” of volunteers after major events on the port – Formula One Grand Prix, Yacht Show, Jumping, etc. - to help the local waste authority pick up plastic debris before it falls into the port.

In 2017 STARS’N’BARS was invited to support the government-inspired National Pact for Energy Transition whose goal is to make Monaco carbon neutral by 2030.

Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) is one of the world’s leading superyacht events. Each year, the eagerly anticipated show brings together some 36,000 industry players and influencers for business, networking and pleasure.

As such, with any large event, a huge amount of unnecessary waste is disposed of. Annette Anderson, STARS‘N’BARS marketing manager, said, “Fortunately, the organisers of the Monaco Yacht Show are committed to reducing the environmental impact of the event.

She added, “By being visible about the sustainability around MYS and really shouting about it, we can encourage others to consider going green too.”

Simon Brooks, field operations manager of Yachting Pages Media Group, said, “It is incredibly rewarding to be channelling YP’s desire for an industry-wide eco-revolution. We’re excited to be teaming up with our long-standing partners’ STARS’N’BARS, who are at the forefront of the industry when it comes to making a positive environmental impact.”

Volunteers will meet at the STARS‘N’BARS terrace straight after the show on Saturday 29th September to help with the clean up.
