Sunseeker hosts ‘blue’ exhibition during Southampton Boat Show

Sunseeker has unveiled its first ‘Blue’ exhibition space on the opening day of The Yachtmarket.com Southampton Boat Show (14^th to 23^rd September).

With marine conservation the theme for this year’s 50th anniversary show, Sunseeker will be highlighting the topical issue with an immersive experience that will demonstrate the importance of protecting our seas and oceans for future generations.

Its 2018 stand layout includes a compelling exhibition in conjunction with long-term charity partner The Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) – a charity dedicated to creating more marine reserves around the world.

The UK boatbuilder recently launched ‘Project Menorca’ in a bid to establish a conservation programme on the Balearic island.

The war on plastic in the world’s oceans has brought environmental issues to the forefront of the marine industry. International Boat Industry (IBI), a primary market information source for the global leisure marine industry, is determined to help raise the profile of environmental initiatives across the industry.

In 2016, IBI added the Environmental Initiative category award, this year sponsored by the Italian trade federation UCINA, to its annual Boat Builder Awards, held in association with Raymarine and organised jointly by IBI and METSTRADE. IBI is now calling for this year’s environmental pioneer.

“Sunseeker is one high-profile example of a boatbuilder doing their bit to help sustain the environment, but also the future well-being of our industry,” says IBI editor and chair of the Boat Builder Award judges, Ed Slack.

“But the battle goes beyond the water, into the yards and facilities of boatbuilders around the world. Last year the judges were wowed by Campion Marine’s extensive use of environmentally friendly hull moulding materials, drastically reducing the harmful footprint of boat production. We want to hear from others that are doing their bit.”

The deadline for nominations is 21^st September. Nominations can be submitted by visiting www.boatbuilderawards.com. Winners will be announced on Tuesday 13^th November at the Awards Gala Dinner during METSTRADE 2018 in the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
