Sybaris Formentera Yacht Provider has announced that it is expecting a busy provisioning season in Formentera this year, following the recent relaxation of yacht charter regulation for EU-flagged commercial vessels in Spain and the Balearic Islands.
Established on the island of Formentera last season, and as the only yacht provisioner currently based on the Balearic island, Sybaris Yacht is benefitting from the recent increase in the amount of visiting yachts and superyachts, who up until last year had to stock their boats with supplies in Ibiza, Mallorca and other nearby ports.
Raul Burgete, managing director of Sybaris Formentera said, “With the increasing popularity of the Balearic Islands as a yacht charter destination, and Formentera’s close proximity to the party island of Ibiza, increasing amounts of superyachts are choosing to visit to get away from the louder and more crowded Balearic Islands.
“Sybaris started in Formentera last year as an extension of the Spanish supermarket chain, Frufor, where we saw so many captains and chefs coming down to see us because there was no mobile provisioning company based in Formentera to serve them. This is when we started to work with the yachts; they know that if the products exist, we will find them.”
Having celebrated a busy first season last year, Sybaris has worked with a number of large yachts visiting the island, including the 65m S/Y El Creole and 102m M/Y A.
Raul continued, “Superyachts can now sail to Formentera without having to stock in Ibiza or Palma de Mallorca. This is a big step and we love that we are part of this change. We want all of the superyachts to know there is a new player in the game, and we can serve yachts by tender, car, truck of even helicopter.”
