The do's and dont's of VSAT on board yachts

With so many different options to think about when installing VSAT on board or when picking up a communication package, MTN Satellite Communications has recently published two guides about VSAT, including how to decide which VSAT provider, services and antennas are right for each individual yacht.

The first edition, available here, targets Captains and ETO's who manage communications onboard. It includes advice about how to choose the right antennas, how to manage the bandwidth, how to understand all terms in the contract and make sure you’re not locked into a rigid contract and more.

The second edition, available here, has been written specifically for management and charter companies. This guide starts with some basics to better understand VSAT and then runs through some DOs & DON’Ts to help tailor the communications to the owners and guests needs. Finally, it suggests a few critical questions to ask guests, in order to help evaluate the onboard needs and manage the network accordingly.

Captains, ETO's and managers are offered so many different options, and with so many potential pitfalls, it is important to make sure everyone takes the right steps when installing and managing VSAT on a yacht.
