VBH to introduce the Ming call system

VBH, a major provider of luxury technology and IT systems for superyachts, is introducing the Ming steward call system alongside its own steward call technology to its superyacht clients.

The attraction of the German-made Ming is two-fold. Firstly it is exceptionally easy to use and requires no instructions or technical know-how. A compact cylinder with a single, large button on the top, the user simply chooses between giving either a short or long press, each of which has a separate pre-agreed meaning. This is received by a designated crewmember who responds accordingly.

The second attraction is the physical build and appearance of the Ming button. Measuring 56 x 58mm, it is easily portable and so can always be within reach; whether it is on a table or beside a chair or bed. Precision engineered to the highest standards, the buttons can be crafted in any metal and wrapped in any hide or covering that the client chooses. The result is individual works of art that will reflect and enhance even the most distinctive interior.

The Ming complements VBH’s own steward call system. Whereas the Ming is exquisitely simple and elegant, VBH offers a technically advanced alternative that gives a greater range of options and versatility via the familiarity of an iPad. Bespoke software allows each yacht to specify exactly the functionality that it requires.

This can include additional touch-screen buttons to convey specific requirements such as requesting a particular type of drink or the need for fresh towels. The VBH system also uses Wi-Fi, allowing each iPad to work from anywhere on board, whereas the Ming uses Zigbee, making each button dedicated to a single zone.

Susanne Mensink, commercial director at VBH commented, “The Ming is simple, elegant and easy to install. It’s perfect for those who want to make a style statement and for use on tables in saloons and dining areas. It also sits well alongside the VBH steward call system that provides greater versatility and mobility to those with more varied and complex needs. Both have a role to play on the modern superyacht and we are very happy to recommend Ming to our customers where it best suits their requirements.”

VBH will be demonstrating the Ming steward call system on its stand at the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show.
