Dutch shipyard, Vitters, has announced it has signed a new order for a 50m performance ketch.
Commissioned by an experienced yacht owner, the new vessel is designed primarily for cruising and features interior styling by UK-based Rhoades Young Design, and naval architecture from Dutch designers Hoek Design.
Construction on the ketch will begin later this month and is scheduled to be delivered in late 2019.
The yacht will have an aluminium hull with a centreboard keel and a carbon rig with in-boom furling. It will boast a twin deckhouse configuration including an owner’s deckhouse and a central deckhouse complete with saloon. There will be three cockpits: one for the owners aft, a crew cockpit forward of the mast and the main cockpit amidships.
On board, the owner’s suite leads on to the private deckhouse and cockpit. There will be two cabins for guests, one double and one twin, while a third could also be created by converting a seating area. A crew will be accommodated in four cabins that can house seven people, and they will have access to a separate mess and lounge area.
The interior of the ketch will be a blend of both contemporary and traditional styles, and among the other interior facilities will be a gym, formal dining space and a second saloon.
The yard's project manager said, “The new project is a fine example of why Vitters continues to attract knowledgeable sailors looking for the best possible sailing yacht. The owner was seeking the finest Dutch quality and admired our previous work.
“The fact that Vitters has the experience and flexibility to deliver this beautiful yacht in time for the 2019 season was a further benefit and we look forward to exceeding the owner’s high expectations.”
