In the realm of maritime luxury, the quest to offer yacht charter guests the perfect night's sleep has become an art form, one which luxury bed and linen supplier, CC Design, has fully committed to.
Warsash Maritime Academy (WMA) has announced the launch of a unique venture in collaboration with Southampton Solent University and a distinctive group of established and high‐quality service providers to meet demand from the international superyacht industry for premium course provision and business support services.
Warsash Superyacht Academy (WSA) is a flagship new initiative, which draws upon nearly 70 years of WMA’s expertise and heritage as a global leader in maritime education and training to deliver specialist training programmes and business services to the superyacht industry.
The new Academy becomes the only centre in the world able to provide such a comprehensive range of course provision, from entry level training for all crew, to progression training and certification for officers and Captains up to and beyond 3,000gt, and accessible training for career and personal development up to Master’s degree level.
Announcing the launch of WSA, Warsash Director Andrew Hair said: “Our capability to deliver an exclusive, all‐encompassing range of high quality course provision for interior, deck and engineering personnel draws upon our experience as a world class and innovative provider of maritime education, training, research and consultancy”.
“Warsash Superyacht Academy will foster the interests of Superyacht personnel, owners and management companies by providing the specialist training and business services required to meet developing needs and elite standards.”
WSA is located within Warsash Maritime Academy’s impressive 17 acre waterside campus close to Southampton, UK, which has an outstanding range of state‐of‐the‐art training facilities and purpose built learning environments. These include a new engine room simulator, a world class full mission bridge simulator, pier head survival craft facilities, a fire fighting school and dedicated workshops and centres for engineering, seamanship and radio communications.
Situated close by at Timsbury Lake, WMA’s world-leading Ship Handling Centre provides specialised training and assessment for Captains and senior officers in ship handling using manned ship models. This unique multi‐million pound facility offers a variety of ship handling challenges, including port entry scenarios, berthing manoeuvres, canal transits, narrow channels and turning basins.
“Our teaching faculty is highly respected internationally, attracting some of the most experienced deck and engineering tutors and specialist interior crew trainers. Our students also have access to all of the resources and benefits offered by Southampton Solent University, including its innovative virtual campus and online learning environment for distance learning,” said Andrew Hair.
By linking with a variety of reputable educational and commercial partners, Warsash Superyacht Academy is also able to provide a unique range of business services in support of the superyacht sector.
On‐board training options include a range of mandatory and non‐mandatory safety course provision, PYA‐accredited interior crew modules and security training. WSA also reviews standard operating procedures for deck, engine and interior departments, providing specialist consultancy in areas like interior yacht management.
Operating a large yacht requires well trained and professional crew with the necessary certification and testimonials to support their experience, and WSA’s recruitment and crew management partners specialise in building premier crew teams in the global superyacht sector. WSA also assists crew with detailed guidance through its website on career development and progression.
WSA’s partners also offer a range of other management services, including new construction, sale and purchase, charter, surveys, audits and registrations. Travel services are another vital component and competitive crew travel itineraries are available. WSA can also provide an extensive range of specialist services such as customised simulation, testing and diagnostics and hydrodynamic evaluation in a 60‐metre towing tank.
Warsash Superyacht Academy will be officially launched on 20th September 2012 at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show, which runs from 19th to 22nd September 2012. WSA has already opened a local base at The Yacht Hub in Antibes, France to provide an accessible link to Captains and crew who are based in and around the Mediterranean, and to inform them about its range of high-quality course and service provision.
