Yacht facilities continue to expand in China

China is set to see an increase in refit and repair facilities over the next few years according to leading Chinese yacht repairs company Visun Tuscany Yachting. Having already created a new shipyard in the coastal city of Sanya, China, which is dedicated to the refit and repair of yachts, catamarans and sailing boats, more plans are afoot to aid the growing interest in the yachting industry within the Chinese market.

The shipyard in Sanya has transpired due to the creation of Sanya Visun Tuscany Yachting Co., Ltd, which is a Sino-Italian joint venture established in 2013 between Chinese company Sanya Visun Royal Yacht Club Co., Ltd., who controls 49% of the shares, and Italian company Toscana Refit S.r.l., who controls 51%.

The first project of the company was the Visun Tuscany Yacht Repair Service Centre, a 5,000m² international level one-stop yacht repair yard that offers repair and refit services to sailing boats (including catamarans) and motor yachts of up to 36m LOA (120ft) and can accommodate on land up to 20 boats at a single time.

Strategically located in front of the Sanya Visun Royal Yacht Club, the service centre is managed by an Italian general manager with a long experience in yacht services and counts on a Chinese-Italian team of skilled technicians trained to international standards.

The service centre is designed according to international standards and is equipped with an 900m² covered painting shed, dedicated woodworking, metalworking and electricity workshops and state-of-the-art machinery, including a custom-made 160 ton boat-hoist (the largest in Hainan) and a 150 ton motorised yacht trailer.

According to Visun Tuscany Yachting, the existing facility is but the first step in the long road that will take the company brand to be recognised as the number one provider of yacht services in the Asia-Pacific region. Another 66.000m² service center, dedicated to servicing super and megayachts of up to 80m LOA (260ft), is scheduled for opening in Sanya Yacheng area by the end of 2015, and even more facilities are being planned for the next few years with the target of establishing a region-wide network.

Located in Sanya, the main tourist destination in the tropical island of Hainan and the hot spot of the booming Chinese yacht market, the competitive advantage of the Visun Tuscany Yachting, lies in the different strengths and expertise of its two partners.

Visun Royal Yacht Club is part of Visun Group and was founded in 2005 by the farsighted entrepreneur Mr Wang Da Fu, a pioneer of the yacht industry in Hainan. It is an integrated yacht project that includes: a members only platinum five-star hotel, a yacht marina with 216 berths (with more than 150 yachts of up to 36m moored), a yacht sales and service centre that earned the dealership of several international brands such as Beneteau, Lagoon and Montecarlo Yachts and finally, waterfront showroom spaces that house the dealers of the biggest names of yachting worldwide, including Azimut, Ferretti and Sunseeker.

400 more berths and a seven-star yacht hotel are currently under construction. Since 2010 Visun Yacht Club is also the organiser and the host of Hainan Rendez-Vous, the most relevant boat show in the Greater China region.

Toscana Refit is formed by a group of Italian companies from Tuscany, a small coastal region of Italy. Relying on its member companies and the people within them, all of which are leading figures in their own field of specialisation, and taking advantage of its vast and diversified network of contacts and relations, Toscana Refit represents the different skills found within the Tuscany yachting industry.
