This air contains a large amount of hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), a hazardous gas that is poisonous and highly flammable. H₂S can do serious damage to the human body and high levels of inhalation can be deadly. There are other names for H₂S, including sewer gas, stink damp, swamp gas, and manure gas, and it has an extremely strong smell similar to rotten eggs.
