112 Custom fast cruiser Liara on schedule at Baltic Yachts

Construction is on schedule for the 2019 launch of Baltic Yachts’ 112 Custom fast cruiser, now named Liara, with project manager Tommy Johansson confirming the release of the advanced composite hull from its mould.

With naval architecture and exterior styling by designer Malcolm McKeon, the 112 has been commissioned by an experienced yachtsman who intends to combine comfortable, fast, long-distance family cruising with occasional forays onto the race course.

Announced in August 2017 and expected for launch in spring, key features of the 34.14-metre (112-foot) sloop include a telescopic keel, which allows her draught to be reduced from 6.15m to 3.91m, and a rotating, retractable-propulsion system to enhance speed and manoeuvrability when under power by a square-top mainsail.

She has a carbon-composite hull and bimini, which will offer passengers in the cockpit protection from the elements. Combined with her foam and Nomex cores, she weighs just 84 tonnes.

On-board accommodation is in place for up to eight guests across four cabins, including a full-beam owner’s cabin forward, a VIP and two twins. The aft crew area allows for a staff of up to five people.

McKeon said, “I am delighted to see Liara taking shape at Baltic Yachts and to see her hull released from the mould, ready for the outfitting stage, is particularly exciting. The design and build adheres to strict weight targets and, thanks to the work of the dedicated team, we’re progressing on time and on target.”

Sebastian Allebrodt from A2B Maritime Consultants has been appointed as the owner’s representative, while British design firm Adam Lay will provide her interior design, details of which have as yet been withheld.

Other projects currently under development at the Finnish yard include 25.91m Baltic 85 Custom which is due to hit the water before the end of 2018, and the 43.28m Baltic 142 Custom for a 2019 launch.
