14,000th tank built by Tek-Tanks for restoration project

Tek-Tanks, the Hampshire based specialist in water, waste and fuel tanks, was delighted to be chosen by Red Sky Craft of Finland to supply six custom-built tanks for the restoration of the famous 12m yacht Blue Marlin.

When the tanks were built it was noticed that one of them was the 14,000^th tank built by the company since they started in 1991.

This custom-designed and built waste tank was one of the more complex that the Tek-Tanks team has designed and built recently.  However with the aid of its sophisticated design software and CAD cutting equipment the entire set was completed and delivered on time and on budget.

Designed and constructed in Gosport, Hampshire, UK in 1930 by renowned naval architect Charles E. Nicholson; this beautiful12m racing boat was originally named Hurricane.

She was built for actress Marlene Dietrich’s female lover Marion Barbara “Betty” Carstairs, who unfortunately declined to accept the gift and sold her immediately after the boat was delivered.

The yacht eventually ended up in Italian hands.  While being kept in Izola on the Adriatic coast of Slovenia she began to fall into disrepair, eventually sitting disused in a harbour for several years.

In 2006 a Finnish banker and sailor, Henrik Andersin, found and bought the vessel, which was carefully transported from Slovenia to Finland.  In its new home, “Blue Marlin” is being restored to her former glory; hence the need for a complete set of custom designed tanks from Tek-Tanks.
