32m Sila Sibiri stranded in Palma de Mallorca after large storm

Following a storm surge in Palma de Mallorca, sailing yacht Sila Sibiri (formerly Kestrel) has been washed up on shore.

Since the early hours of 15th October, the 32-metre (104-foot) Turkish-built ketch has been stranded next to the capital city’s famous Paseo Marítimo.

Reportedly, two crewmembers were on board the vessel, both of who have evacuated safely.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but it is believed that in the challenging conditions manoeuvring difficulties led to the yacht drifting ashore as she was sitting at anchor.

Due to the severe conditions at the time, an earlier attempt to recover the vessel was aborted. At the time of publishing, the yacht remains stranded in her current position.

Kestrel Superyachts at the Aganlar Boatyard in Turkey built Sila Sibiri in 2012 to a design by Ron Holland.
