Phuket Yacht Haven Marina and Galileo Maritime Academy have signed a new agreement to build a university-style campus at Yacht Haven Marina.
The campus will provide advanced international training for crew on board superyachts, commercial shipping and offshore oil and gas facilities.
The agreement is seen as a move by Phuket Yacht Haven to become a major investor in Galileo, and strategic partner in the expansion of Galileo’s training services and facilities. According to a statement from Galileo, the alliance with the “influential family behind Yacht Haven Marina and other major marine developments in Thailand” is “key to maintaining Galileo’s rapid growth in the world market for first class training and certification of seafarers.”
A new Galileo campus opened on Monday at Phuket Yacht Haven Marina for its first training course with international students from Sweden, France and Tunisia. Currently, the facilities include a student residence, offices, training centre, advanced firefighting school and a marine engineering school.
Currently, Galileo is the only maritime academy in the Asia Pacific region to be accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) of the UK Department for Transport and to be approved to issue MCA certificates of competence to seafarers.
