Albania Yachting announces 2019 charity swim sponsorship

Leading yacht agency Albania Yachting has announced its sponsorship of Albania Overboard, an annual swimming charity race between Corfu and Albania organised for the local community.

Having raised over €60,000 to date for non-profit organisation The Smile of a Child, in 2019 Albania Overboard has added an environmental fund to the charities they support.

This year’s headline charity is the newly formed Ionian Environment Foundation (IEF), which is the newest member of a network of funds covering Ibiza, St Vincent and the Grenadines, the Aeolian Islands, the Cyclades, Sri Lanka, Barbados, Menorca and Mallorca. The IEF is an exciting, scalable, charitable model which provides the structure and fundraising expertise but leaves the important work to local people and groups with existing environmental initiatives. Overseen by Costa Kaloudis, the local executive director, the fund issues annual grants to empower these initiatives and allow them to scale up their operations and really make a difference.

In addition, Albania Overboard will once again be supporting The Smile of a Child, a registered Greek charity with ten houses across the country. In the charity's 25 years of experience, it has helped over 1.3 million children recover from the effects of violence, health problems and extreme poverty, as well as spearheading countless missing children's campaigns.

The CEO of Albania Yachting, explained, “We are proud of being partners with Albania Overboard.

“As a local yacht agency, we feel compelled to give back to the area and environment that has given us so much. This is not the first activity we are part of, earlier this year we’ve hosted a field trip for local school children to motivate them about underwater research and science.

“As a company, we are fully committed to both causes, the preservation of the environment and children and we feel the Albania Overboard charity covers them both.”
