Asia’s largest superyacht completes sea trials

Illusion Plus, the largest yacht to ever be built in Asia, has successfully completed sea trials. You can watch highlights of the trials on YouTube.

The 88.5-metre (290-foot) yacht is currently in the final stages of her construction at Chinese shipyard Pride Mega Yachts and is due to be delivered in the third quarter of this year.

British studio Rainsford Saunders Design is responsible for her exterior lines, with an advance build inspired by Rolls-Royce motor cars, featuring a vertical bow and gently sloping transom. She is built from a steel hull and aluminium superstructure to ABS standards.

The project dates back to 2007 but was put on hold when the global financial crisis hit. The latest news came about as the six-deck yacht was listed for sale in February with Y.CO with an asking price of $145 million USD.

Illusion Plus sports a spacious interior by Dutch designers Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and is installed by Greenline Yacht Interiors of Dubai. She will accommodate 16 guests in eight cabins, encompassing an owner's suite, two VIP suites, two doubles, one twin and two double cabins that convert to lounges.

In addition, all guest cabins will have television screens and en-suite bathroom facilities, along with a further 15 cabins to house a maximum of 25 crewmembers.

The main saloon will have a mezzanine feature that allows the interior to be opened up to create a double-height atrium. A relaxed seating area will feature a cinema screen while an elevator will connect four of the six decks.

Four guest lounges and two interior dining areas are additional features, alongside a dedicated spa with a sauna, steam room and massage room and a large tender garage. To embrace her spacious design there will also be a lower deck ocean lounge with a bar, extensive outdoor spaces with two Jacuzzi tubs, including one with a waterfall feature, and her own helicopter landing pad.

As a result of two 3,000hp Rolls Royce diesel-electric engines, Illusion Plus has a top speed of 16 knots. She has a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 14 knots and has been fitted with Rolls-Royce retractable fin stabilisers for further safety and comfort.

Illusion Plus is due for delivery before the end of this year, at which she will officially join the list of the top 100 largest superyachts in the world.
