Awlgrip Superyacht Interior Design Competition

Akzo Nobel’s Awlgrip, a leading supplier of topside finishing systems, has announced a new interior design competition aimed at superyacht interior designers of the future. In association with Trimline Superyacht Interiors and The Superyacht Group the competition follows the decision to introduce a range of interior coating products from Awlgrip.

The competition is aimed at 2nd and 3rd year design students and graduates from the past 12 months, from across the globe and comes with a cash prize of £5,000 and the opportunity for the winning design to be showcased at both the Monaco Yacht Show and Fort Lauderdale Boat Show later this year. Interior specialists Trimline will also build a full-sized execution of the design to be unveiled at the Global Superyacht Forum during the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) 2012, in Amsterdam.

Global senior product manager at Awlgrip, Chris Toole commented in an interview with superyachtnews.com, “Awlgrip is challenging interior designers of the future to show how innovative design can utilise these new materials to produce interiors that can be more stylish, increasingly ergonomic and easier to build than ever before”.

The winning design will be the best looking, ergonomic, feature the most innovative use of the new Awlgrip products and easy to build. This can be anything from storage or vanity units to crew workspace or even a bridge console, the brief is completely open for interpretation.

The judging panel will consist of two interior fit-out contractors, Struik & Hamerslag and Trimline Superyacht Interiors as well as two established interior design companies, yet to be announced.

Those wishing to enter the competition should declare their interest within the first months of 2012 at [email protected]. Entrants will then receive a brief, outlining the details of the challenge including judging criteria and information on the materials and resources available.
