Azimut-Benetti Group has announced it has won a tender to build a 35m conference motoryacht for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Commissioned by the city of Tokyo, the yacht will host official presentations and conferences, and the contract for its build was put out to international tender. There were two stages to the process: The first was to verify that organisations invited to bid were financially sound, with the second stage being a presentation of technical and financial bids.
The group worked with Verme Yacht Design consultants on the vessel’s structural design and hull shape. There is also a dedicated project team for the yacht, and the motoryacht will be built at the Livorno shipyard before the planned delivery in December 2018.
The vessel is designed to reach a top speed of 25 knots, and will feature three decks. Inside, the client requested a conference table with seating for up to 35 people along with an interpreter booth and Japanese-style reception room. The yacht will feature a water-jet propulsion system, which will keep the draught below 1.25m, enabling her to not exceed 11m from the waterline.
Benetti CEO Vincezno Poerio said of the project, “We have won an extremely difficult tender operation in a country where the impeccable quality of products and services is a philosophy of life. The customer was extremely selective in both the pre-selection and award stages.
“The fact that we have beaten the major shipyards we were competing against is a further demonstration of our organisational reliability, financial soundness, construction experience and technological innovation capabilities, of which I cannot help but be very proud.”
