International yacht brokers, Burgess, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month, entering its fifth decade after closing a successful sales year in 2014.
Specialising in the sale of large yachts, Burgess now employs over 160 personnel who are located in 11 offices around the world.
2014 saw the business close sales on three of the five largest yachts on the market, and in total 42 yachts were sold over the year, valuing in excess of €1.2 billion. Seven of the Burgess sales were new build projects, which heralds good news for the future of the superyacht industry.
First launched in 2001, Burgess also owns and operates Burgess Technical Services (BTS); a new construction division which offers project management services to yacht owners, captains and other interested parties, supporting them through the new build process.
According to Burgess, they enjoyed a successful 2014 boat show season, exhibiting more than 10% of the vessels on display last year at Cannes, Monaco and Fort Lauderdale, with a total value of over US$1 billion.
Representatives of Burgess suggest that 2015 is shaping up to be ‘even more exciting’ than previous years, with a significant number of new builds under construction and ready for launch in 12 to 18 months’ time, and order books filling up through to 2018.
