Custom tender specialist Cockwells has announced the delivery of two 7m sports tenders to the Perini Navi 70m sailing superyacht Sybaris.
The two tenders were designed in-house by the Cockwells team and share the same hull, built from carbon fibre composite with titanium fixtures and fittings, and weighing just under 2.2 tonnes. Designed to fit the existing storage areas on board Sybaris, the tenders’ layouts are completely open, allowing for guest entertainment, two aft sunpads and seating space for eight people.
In a statement, Cockwells revealed that the project presented them with a design challenge, due to the tender garage on board Sybaris having already been built with space for a pair of RIBS. However it was a challenge which they gladly took on, coming up with an “inventive idea” to design a “detachable roof built from ultra-lightweight materials.”
In terms of power, the tenders feature 160hp Yanmar 6BY3 engines and are able to cruise at a speed of up to 36 knots. Managing director Dave Cockwell commented, “Cockwell’s reputation for quality, flexibility and creative problem-solving is exemplified by this innovative design.
“Once the tender is in its garage, the crew can undo the latches that hold the roof in place, turn it upside down and place it back down into the cockpit well of the tender, which reduces the tender’s height by half and enables it to sit comfortable beneath the mothership’s foredeck. We are proud of our 100% success rate at meeting client design challenges and this limousine tender for Sybaris is no exception.”
Sybaris is also fitted with a limousine tender which features a removable roof, allowing it to double up as a sports tender.
