Collaborative training courses delivered by Warsash Superyacht Academy and IYM

Looking to enhance an already well-established reputation amongst superyacht owners and charter businesses, the Italian Yacht Masters (IYM) Association members’ recently collaborated with Warsash Superyacht Academy, part of the Southampton Solent University, to run a training course for senior officers.

Held at the IYM’s headquarters in the Yacht Club Marina di Loano, Liguria, 24 IYM members have completed the first collaborative five-day STCW 2010 Human Element Leadership and Management (HELM(M)) course.

IYM founders Captain Dario Savino and Captain Luca Triggiani drove the training initiative in conjunction with the Warsash Superyacht Academy - one of the leading training providers for deck, engineering and interior certification – in order to offer high standards and global recognition of the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA).

Mark Bee, principal lecturer of Management Studies at Warsash, travelled to Loano to deliver the course, which qualifies ship and superyacht captains in leadership and management, in compliance with the new STCW 2010 regulations.

Mr. Bee said, “I enjoyed working with our friends of the Italian Yacht Masters’ Association who had prepared well for the training and all took an active part in the discussions and class work, demonstrating the professionalism that the membership encourages.”

Captain Dario Savino said, “We are very pleased to be working with such a highly regarded training provider such as Warsash Superyacht Academy in developing the professionalism of our members.

“Mark really helped us hone our management and leadership skills, for the important position of superyacht captain. We are looking forward to continuing the collaboration with Warsash Superyacht Academy to develop further training opportunities for our members in areas such as Crowd and Crisis Management and International Safety Management.”
